Todd Owens Receives Thomas D. Sanders Award Of Excellence

Kansas City Fab Shop Manager Todd Owens was named the 2025 Thomas D. Sanders Award of Excellence recipient at the Cerris Systems office in Kansas City.

The Thomas D. Sanders Award of Excellence is the company’s highest honor and is presented annually to a deserving recipient. When Tom Sanders – a member of our founding family – led our organization, he helped create a culture rooted in three things he thought were incredibly important to our business: people, performance, and relationships.

Todd Owens has worked at Cerris Systems for more than 40 years, beginning his career in 1984 as a Pipefitter Apprentice and becoming the third generation of his family to join our organization. Today, he serves as Fab Shop Manager, a role in which he has been instrumental in shaping and growing our fabrication capabilities in Kansas City and beyond.

Throughout his career, Todd has championed consistency and collaboration across our fab shop teams nationwide, fostering a strong, cohesive culture that allows these teams to support one another as we continue to expand and take on more work across the country. His leadership has been pivotal in advancing our company’s commitment to fabrication excellence, ensuring that our teams deliver the highest quality work while embracing innovation and efficiency.

Todd is a true advocate of teamwork. He has served as a vital conduit between the Kansas City office and our union partners — especially Local 533 Pipefitters, the trade he came up through and still practices today. His ability to build authentic relationships has strengthened our partnerships and reinforced the trust that is essential to our success.

A dedicated, level-headed servant leader, Todd exemplifies Integrity and Teamwork in everything he does. In the spirit of our “Train Your Replacement” mentality, he mentors the next generation of craft professionals, including his own son, passing down invaluable skills and industry knowledge that will benefit our organization for decades to come.
